Ernie earned his degree – so can you.

“I am proud that I recently earned my Master of Management degree from the online degree program at University of Phoenix. I felt supported throughout my degree program and want to share my experiences with the University of Phoenix Tribal Operations Team.”

I have a very busy work schedule that includes considerable travel. Finishing this degree was not easy. However, the Tribal Specialists were invaluable with their immediate support. They provided resources that helped me stay engaged and on track for graduation. The team’s knowledge and patience in helping me work through the paperwork and financial aid process were like no other. They worked closely with my tribal office regarding funding and handled the details, leading to a very smooth process.

My goal is for more tribal citizens and employees to use education benefits to step into positions with more responsibility. University of Phoenix helps tribal communities develop internal talent pools so they can grow, and help their employees develop new skills and further advance their career within their Tribal community.

I look forward to an ongoing working relationship with the University of Phoenix and tribal students. I am ecstatic to say, “I am a Phoenix”!

Frequently asked questions

We conducted research for two years to determine why only 15% of Native American college students who start a bachelor’s degree graduate, as compared to 24%-51% of Blacks and Asians. Based on this information, we formed a Tribal Operations Team whose sole responsibility is to mitigate the challenges we learned during those two years.[2]

[2] Thompson, M. N., Johnson-Jennings, M., & Nitzarim, R. S. (2013). Native American undergraduate students' persistence intentions: A psychosociocultural perspective. Cultural Diversity and Ethnic Minority Psychology, 19(2), 218-228. doi:10.1037/a0031546

Based on the information we learned from years of research a tribal-specific success strategy was developed to provide individualized support specifically for our tribal students. A lack of academic preparation is only a small part of the challenges tribal college students face. Studies indicate that most tribal students drop in the first semester; however, our tribal students’ progress eight (8) percentage points higher than our non-tribal students.

Aside from the Tribal Operations Team, which is a significant benefit to our students, we offer a wide variety of career-focused degrees, single courses, certificates, professional development, and custom options that serve the specific needs of each of our tribal casino relationships. Our focus is on the academic success of our students.

We’ve been accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (hlcommission.org) for more than 45 years. Select business, education and nursing degree programs have also received programmatic accreditation.

Yes. If you are married and are employed at a Tribal casino, your spouse and children may be eligible for Tribal Casino tuition benefits.
