I am deeply saddened by the recent violence toward the Asian American Pacific Islander community earlier this week. The deadly shootings at Georgia Asian-owned businesses, and the vandalism at a San Antonio, Texas restaurant, which was defaced with racial slurs and death threats because the owner supported the wearing of masks, is abhorrent, disturbing and simply must stop.
As a university that celebrates a diverse community of students, alumni, faculty and employees, we have zero tolerance for violence or destruction in any form. We will always remain committed to taking action to confront racial injustice in all its forms, and to doing our part as an institution of higher learning to bring people together and do the hard work of effecting lasting change. We stand united with communities of color, including the AAPI community. No one should ever have to live in fear.
