The event, co-sponsored by the University, helps foster community connection and build a vision for a safer future
University of Phoenix proudly supported the “Gospel at Hinchliffe for Antiviolence” concert, which took place on August 4, 2024, at Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson, New Jersey. Organized by Silk City Connections, the event featured musical performances by Anthony Brown & group therapy, as well as local performers and youth groups. The concert aimed to combat violence and promote unity through the transformative power of music and community engagement.
“We are deeply grateful for the financial support from organizations like University of Phoenix, which help us bring our vision of a safer and more connected community to life,” stated former NBA player and co-founder of Silk City Connections, Rory Sparrow. “There are many people and institutions that talk the talk, but the University of Phoenix walks the walk. Their ongoing outreach and support enable us to create impactful programs that engage and empower youth, provide valuable resources, and foster a culture of nonviolence and mutual respect.”
Silk City Connections was founded by four Paterson natives seeking to reduce instances of violence in the community. By providing music education resources to local schools, hosting live events to inspire and uplift attendees, and partnering with local officials to bolster support for anti-violence efforts, the organization is focused on making a positive impact on its residents.
“Seeing the Paterson community come together to champion a sense of safety and respect was deeply inspiring,” shared Jelisa Dallas, Program Manager of Student Organizations at University of Phoenix, who attended the event. “At University of Phoenix, our core values of bravery, honesty, and focus guide us. The community’s courageous pursuit of peace, genuine commitment to well-being, and dedication to belonging reflect these values and underscore our mission to transform lives for the better.”
The University’s sponsorship of the event is a natural extension of its commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). CSR initiatives at University of Phoenix focus on philanthropic efforts and community-focused initiatives that prioritize education, advocate for social justice, and champion philanthropy with a career support focus. This ethos forms an integral part of the University's dedication to fostering a culture of community involvement, empowering faculty and staff to volunteer with organizations such as the Arizona Foundation for Women, Jobs for the Future, Fresh Start Women’s Foundation, Give an Hour, and the National Society of Leadership and Success.
